The first three weeks will be devoted to orientation - tour of the city, visiting various BCM departments and looking at some basic Biblical principles.

In the first three months Urban Challengers will be exposed to all the evangelistic work of the Mission and to much of its social work and seasonal projects.

After Christmas there will be opportunity for more specialisation and individually tailored programmes. 

Here's a breakdown of what you will be doing:

City Centre Outreach

twice weekly open airs

sketchboard/metalboard

one-to-one evangelism

Everyone has something to contribute. We work as a team. You will learn from experienced staff and we will learn from you as well.

 

 

 

District Outreach

door-to-door outreach

church-linked visiting

BCM double-decker bus

Working in twos or small teams. You will be eased into this work gently.

 

 

Christian Social Work

with elderly - lunch clubs, home & hospital visits

with homeless - 'soup kitchen', friendship evangelism

with children - Christmas toy distribution

 

 

 

 

Children's Work

schools - assemblies, RE lessons

weekly & holiday kids' clubs - with BCM Bus

weekend camp in June

(optional) BCM Camp (a week in August)

 

 

 

Special Projects

church Missions (weekend or full week)

Lord Mayor's Show (late May) & Carnivals

(optional) BCM's 'In2Mission' (July/August for 2 weeks)

(optional) visit with a City Mission abroad for up to 2 weeks

 

 

 

 

Study

Core lectures: Old Testament, New Testament, Christian Doctrine.

Seminars and Workshops: Apologetics, Open air preaching, Dealing with thorny issues, Sketchboard, Door-to-door work, Working with children, Cults & how  to reach them, and many more.

Services and meetings: Urban Challengers are often invited to take part in different kinds of meetings, either individually or in small teams. To begin with, these opportunities will be tailored to your experience and will build up through the year. Sometimes you will be able to accompany staff on their bookings and observe their approach.
